Oral Appliance Therapy

Oral ApplianceWe’re excited to tell you about an added benefit for our patients who suffer from excessive snoring and mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea.  Dr. Tim Chrapkiewicz, DDS, PC is now seeing patients at our Accredited Sleep Disorder Center and is proud to offer custom made  oral appliances.
Oral appliances may be used alone or in combination with other means of treating OSA.  Oral appliances work in several ways:

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mild to moderate OSA or have trouble tolerating PAP therapy, contact our office at 847-854-7250 for more information or to set up an appointment to see if you are a candidate.

OUR OAT PROGRAM

SCREENING VISIT
During your initial consultation we will obtain important background information, such as medical history, and talk with you about how your life is effected by sleep apnea and snoring.  The consultation includes a thorough dental examination with an examination of prior sleep studies in order to determine whether you're a proper candidate for oral appliance therapy.  If you have moderate-severe OSA you will also need to see Dr. Nager for an interdisciplinary approach to managing this therapy.

FULL PATIENT RECORDS
Upon your second visit, custom impressions of your upper and lower teeth are taken.  These impressions are used to fabricate the custom oral appliance.  The length of the appointment is about 90 minutes. After the impressions are taken, a delivery appointment is then scheduled for three weeks from the impression appointment.

FITTING
Once we receive your custom appliance you will come back wherein we check for proper fit of the appliance. One of the most important visits with us; we instruct you on how to wear, titrate, clean and use your custom oral appliance.

Follow Up Appointments
Follow up appointments are designed to evaluate the effectiveness and progress of your treatment. You will need to have a sleep study while wearing your custom appliance – this way we can verify appropriate treatment for your OSA.
